The basically Sorter is the first reproducible LEGO® sorting machine. It's designed to be reliable, practical, affordable, and mass-producible, with radically new designs to accomplish these goals.
Bulk pieces are fed in through a bucket at the top
Our rotary feeder technology, intelligently controlled by cameras, untangle clumps of pieces
They're fed onto a clear platform, which rotates the piece into a well lit chamber where photos can be taken from every angle. Brickognize classifies its type and color
According to user-defined rules, the piece is categorized and that category is allocated a bin. The piece is dumped into a chute, which dispenses it to the bin
The basically Sorter is actively under community driven development
Early stage
Documentation, tutorials, and onboarding are minimal to non-existent. Much of the CAD is subject to change, and the code will require some tinkering to get running on your setup. All in, the machine is in a fragmented, experimental stage.
We don't expect to be ready until July 2026 for a maker uninvolved with the engineering to be able to recreate the machine with little hassle.
However, if that makes this project sound even more interesting from an engineering perspective, if you're somebody who can see things through end-to-end, join the Discord to get involved.
